Rhotic Britain

This page allows you to switch on and compare different overlayed maps showing the traditional and modern areas of rhoticity by ticking the checkboxes on the right-hand side. It is based on maps – such as the ones in Trudgill, 1990 – that may be a few years out of date by now, as the area depicted for the modern rhotic accents does seem rather too large.

Please note that this page is still experimental and will probably not work correctly in Internet Explorer.
